A 24-year-old engineering student was found hanging inside his hostel room in Modinagar area, police said today.

Manan, who belonged to Kashmir, was in the third year of his B.tech programme at SRM University and lived in a private hostel in Modinagar area.

"The body of Manan was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside his hostel room by one of his friends Navneet. After having dinner, Navneet went to Manan's room and found him hanging there at around 1 AM. Hostel management informed the police about the incident," said a senior police officer.

No suicide note has been found at the spot.

However, police have not ruled out the possibility of Manan taking the extreme step due to a failed love affair

"We would interrogate his parents once they reach here from Kashmir to get some leads in the case.Police are also investigating the case from love angle. We are scanning his phone call details to know with whom he talked to the last time," the officer said.

Manan returned from Kashmir three days ago.

Police have sent the body for postmortem examination.
