Ragging of Minister's Son: Inquiry Ordered

BHOPAL: After two days of inaction, the Gwalior administration finally woke up on Saturday and decided to take cognisance of the alleged ragging incident that took place at Scindia School on August 20. The administration has constituted an inquiry team to probe the violence against a Bihar minister’s son Adarsh Kumar Singh and the team has been asked to submit its report by Sunday.

The boy, a student of class IX, has been admitted to the ICU unit of Apollo Hospital in Delhi after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Earlier on Saturday, Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi spoke to his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan and asked him to get the incident probed and make sure that the culprits involved in the incident were punished.

The victim’s father, Jai Kumar Singh, who is Bihar Co-operative Minister, is also expected to speak to Chouhan soon, sources close to the family said.

While the administrative staff at the Scindia School are claiming that the boy was found in an unconscious state in his hostel room, the boy’s father had told Express on Friday that he had suffered brain injuries due to ragging and alleged attempts by his seniors to strangle him.

According to police officials in Gwalior, a forensic team was sent to the school on Saturday to conduct the investigation. “We have spoken to officials from the school management and eyewitness regarding the whole incident.

An additional SP-rank officer is supervising the probe. We will establish the chronology of the whole event in a day or two”,  Santosh Singh, Gwalior SSP, said.

P Narhari, Collector, Gwalior, said that a four-member inquiry committee is looking into the incident. “A four member team comprising Sub Divisional Magistrate Gwalior (City), CSP Gwalior, District Education officer and the school principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1 (Gwalior), have been asked to submit their report by August 24.

When contacted by Express, Pavan Verma, Executive Secretary of Scindia School, refused to comment on the issue.
