CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday directed Parkash Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD)-BJP Government in Punjab to conduct the last rites of Ashutosh Maharaj within 15 days.
Ashutosh Maharaj, the head of Diyvya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan at Nurmahal in Jalandhar, was declared clinically dead on January 29.
The court has directed the state government to constitute a Committee headed by the District Magistrate to look into the matter and asked the DGP and the Chief Secretary to monitor the situation. The HC also directed the government to ensure that the religious sentiments of the followers should not be hurt.
The HC had earlier reserved its order on October 29, after arguments of all parties concerned got over.
