Centre Rules out Action against Minister

NEW DELHI: With the Centre ruling out disciplinary action against junior minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, including a resolution against her for her offensive remarks, there seems to be no early resolution in sight to the Parliament logjam.

The BJP, meanwhile, hit out at the Opposition parties for raking up the issue even after the minister had tendered an full apology and also insisting on a resolution in Parliament. Assailing the Opposition, Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also reminded the Congress that it had not apologised for the use of words like “maut ka saudagar”. Besides, he recalled the words uttered against Prime Minister Narendra Modi by former Union Ministers, including Beni Prasad Verma.

“Jyoti has sought an apology over her comments, which the PM has also disapproved of. Have those who said ‘maut ka saudagar’ ever sought an apology? Did Sonia or Rahul say anything about the derogatory utterances by their leaders?”
