AAP Likely to Replace 20 Candidates

NEW DELHI: The AAP is likely to replace its candidates in around 20 seats out of the remaining 25 unannounced seats for the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls.

The AAP has already introduced 16 new faces in the 45 seats it had announced so far in the capital and have plans to change more.

The party has decided to announce all its candidates by December. Outpacing its rivals, the AAP has already put up posters across the national capital.

When asked what the main criteria for replacing candidates was, an AAP leader said: “We have given tickets on the basis of each candidate’s performance in his or her area. Our volunteer feedback has been a key factor in the selection our candidates. We have also taken feedback of our district observers and district heads in ticket selection process.”

While a few outgoing legislators expressed reservations in contesting the elections, two have already defected to the BJP.

Outgoing Laxmi Nagar MLA Vinod Kumar Binny, who was expelled from the party for his “anti-party activities”, and Maninder Sigh Dhir from Jangpura joined the saffron party last month.

Sources said the outgoing MLAs who were likely to be dropped had been mounting pressure over the party leadership to nominate them as the official candidates for the state elections.
