'IS Twitter Name, Place may be Fake'

NEW DELHI: Sources in the National Investigation Agency (NIA), looking into the case related to the suspected Bangalore-based pro-IS Twitter account @ShamiWitness under the ambit of a larger case against the terror outfit, said there was a high probability that Mehdi Mehboob Biswas could just be a pseudonym and even the location --Bangalore -- could be fictitious.

Sources in the Central Intelligence agency refused to divulge further details on whether they have identified the person behind the twitter and if they are getting support from the news channel which may have exact location of the user.

“We are gathering information on whether Mehdi Mehboob is real or a pseudonym. The sketchy report suggests that both the location and name could be fictitious,” sources added.

With over 17,000 followers, the online Jihadi had posted close to 130,000 tweets since 2013.

An analysis by Seartwi, a search client service that analyses the tweets searched from Twitter, suggests that @Shamiwitness was tweeting 284 times per day using 100 characters on average.

The pro-IS Twitter account tweeted posts at an average interval of five minutes.
