Mild Tremor in North Bengal, Hill Areas

DARJEELING: A moderately intense tremor was felt in Darjeeling Hills district and Jalpaiguri in North Bengal and parts of Sikkim tonight but no damage to property or casualty was reported anywhere.     

The spokesman of Sikkim Met Centre Gopinath Raha said the tremor had its epicenter in East Nepal with 5.2 intensity on richter scale.           

Local met office sources said the tremor was felt in adjoining Siliguri city, Dooars belt of Jalpaiguri district and Darjeeling town, Kurseong and other parts of the hills.  

The quake, which was also felt in East Sikkim, lasted for 10 seconds, Met office spokesman said.      

There was no report of loss of life or damage to property anywhere.
