CHENNAI: Indian Coastguard helped retrieve the crew module from the sea after Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Thursday successfully conducted a flight validation of the complex atmospheric flight regime of LVM3 Vehicle carrying the module to study its re-entry characteristics.
Just as the crew module which is approx 3.73 tonne in weight was lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota at about 0930 hours, Indian Coast Guard Ship Samudra Paheredar tracked the module through advance telemetry system from ISRO.
Coastguard spokesman said that the ship tracked the crew module during its passage from launch to its re-entry and its subsequent landing at sea.
Indian Coast Guard Dornier from Campbell Bay at 0945 hrs carried out the initial surveillance and located the crew module and updated the position to the ship. The ship on arrival launched an onboard helicopter for carrying out the pollution test of the area.
The ship’s divers thereafter recovered the crew module braving the rough and very difficult sea conditions, the spokesman added.
