SRINAGAR: BJP’s Kashmir face, Dr Hina Bhat suffered heavy defeat from Amira Kadal constituency in Srinagar.

Hina Bhat, daughter of former NC MLA and MP,  was the face of BJP in the Valley. She always remained in the news and was seen by BJP  as a strong contender from Amira Kadal constituency because of her father’s past. Her father had represented the seat in J&K Assembly couple of times.

However, her charm did not last long and did not make people to vote for her as she suffered a heavy defeat from the seat.

PDP’s Altaf Bukhari won the seat by bagging 9286 votes while his nearest rival was National Conference’s sitting MLA from the seat Nasir Aslam Wani. Wani got 5013 seats.

Hina Bhat, however, got only 594 votes.

But separatist-turned-mainstream politician and chairman of Peoples Conference Sajjad Lone has won election from Handwara constituency in border district of Kupwara.

He defeated NC’s sitting MLA and minister Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan.

It is Sajjad’s first election win after unsuccessfully contesting parliamentary elections in 2009.
