The Delhi Cabinet under the leadership of CM Arvind Kejriwal on Monday cleared the final draft of the Jan Lokpal bill which will now be placed in the State Assembly for its perusal.
The bill covers cover all public servants – right from the chief minister to all Group D employees. No safeguards have been built-in for the CMO for bringing it under the Lokpal’s purview. The bill provides for time-bound investigation and trial of corruption cases. It also ensures legal right of protection for whistleblowers and witnesses.
The selection panel for the appointment of Lokpal chairperson and members will be transparent and free of political control. The seven-member panel will have only one government nominee – the CM.
The tenure of the Lokpal will be seven years.
