A local court on Saturday issued an arrest warrant against former Minister of State for Health Shabir Ahmad Khan for the alleged sexual assault of a lady doctor.

And Chief Judicial Magistrate(CJM) Rajiv Gupta issued the warrant following a petition filed by the police.

The CJM court, which directed the SSP(city)to execute the warrant, observed that it was quite evident that the reasons cited by the police for securing the court order were “genuine” and that the accused had refused to cooperate with the probe.

Later, a three-member police team left for Jammu to arrest Khan. Sources said the police has approached the J&K Assembly Speaker to seek permission for arresting the accused, who is a Congress legislator from Rajouri.

“The court had directed the police to inform the  Speaker about the warrant against the legislator,” they said.

It was also revealed that Khan had not responded to the summons issued for his arrest.

However, there were unconfirmed reports that Khan had surrendered before the police in Jammu, late on Saturday. But the police officials did not confirm it and said they were yet to arrest him.
