'Light Utility Helicopters Tender Almost on'

Raising the hopes of the defence industry, particularly those of the foreign suppliers, Union Defence Minister A K Antony on Wednesday told the Rajya Sabha that there was no proposal to scrap the tender relating to the purchase of the 197 Light Utility Helicopters(LUH), which had come under the scanner following a graft charge levelled against a Brigadier.

Antony said the CBI had filed a case  pertaining to the irregularities in the purchase of the reconnaissance and surveillance helicopters.

“At present, there is no proposal to cancel the proposal relating to the reconnaissance and surveillance helicopters,” he said.

The deal, said to be worth Rs 15,000 crore, was stalled last year after Army chief General Bikram Singh.
