Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria today reviewed the progress of inquiry in the mysterious murder of Hyderabad techie Esther Anuhya, a case in which police have failed to achieve a breakthrough even after over one-and-a- half months of the incident.
Maria, who took charge of his new post over a week ago, held a review meeting here with investigators and is believed to have pulled them up for lack of progress in the case and asked them to show results.
The Crime Branch-led investigating team includes a Deputy Commissioner of Police and personnel from property and anti-robbery cells.
The Mumbai police chief asked the team members to show results at the earliest, sources said. "The Commissioner was not happy with the progress of the case. He wants results as early as possible," they added.
Police are still clueless about the mysterious disappearance of Esther from Kurla railway terminus here on January 5 after arriving from her native place in Andhra Pradesh. Her decomposed body was found off the Eastern Express Highway on January 16. Police were also ascertaining whether she was sexually assaulted.
The 23-year-old, a native of Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh, was employed with IT major TCS at its office in suburban Goregaon.
Police yesterday released the photograph of a man who was spotted with her in a CCTV footage at the station. The man was carrying Esther's luggage.
