Kashmiri Scribe is Twitter India Chief

Raheel will manage the site’s ties with journalists, govt officials.

Raheel Khurshid, 30, a Jammu and Kashmir- based journalist-cum-online activist has taken over as chief of Twitter India, following his appointment earlier this month as head of the news, politics and government division at the popular microblogging site.

Twitter, which along with Facebook is one of the two top social websites, had created the post specifically for a few emerging countries, including India.

He will be in charge of the efforts to provide frontline technical support to the Twitter users, with the job also entailing the setting up of internal support and policy teams.

Besides, Raheel has been given the brief to manage, streamline and expand the social site’s ties with journalists/editors and government officials/ politicians to significantly increase the Twitter penetration  among them.

Earlier, Raheel was Director Communications, India at,the world’s fastest growing social action platform.

There he oversaw several campaigns, including the one on juvenile justice in Kashmir and another called ‘StopRape’, launched in the wake of the horrendous December 16 Delhi gangrape.

He was also instrumental in giving the much needed visibility to hundreds of petitions highlighting the various injustices. A prolific tweeter Raheel has posted 44,226 tweets.
