Bikram Singh admitted that there was “inadequacy” in the roads and rail infrastructure along the borders with China, but assured that the government was working to build the facilities there and had identified projects in this regard.

He said only last year, the Centre had allocated Rs 9,200 crore for infrastructure along the borders with China and a Cabinet Committee on Security note had been prepared for another Rs 28,000-crore worth of projects for the 12th and the 13th Five-year Plans.

He also said that there was a “spike” in the number of transgressions by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army troopers along LAC, but some of the incidents there last year were hyped up by the media.  Singh said that the Border Defence Cooperation Agreement, signed in October had added to the confidence building measures.
