With Devyani Khobragade having left her post, the Ministry of External Affairs will have to start looking for her replacement in the New York consulate, though it may not be in a tearing hurry to do so.
Devyani’s post was Deputy Counsel General for political, economic, commercial and women’s affairs in the New York office.
She had to leave New York last Friday, after India decided to withdraw her following granting G1 visa to the diplomat by the US.
Sources said the post is likely to be filled in the next batch of vacancies to be taken up in the Foreign Service Board meeting in February.
Before the FSB meeting, as is the norm, the list will be circulated for interested applicants to write in.
However, there may not be much interest in the post among officers, especially due to the recent events.
