It will be a politically surcharged weekend here, as the main Opposition BJP and Congress would hold their respective brainstorming sessions to devise the strategy for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP’s three-day event titled ‘mission good governance’ would be the single biggest congregation of the party functionaries in the national capital before the general elections.
It will kick-off with the national executive on Friday and it will coincide with the Congress meeting that is expected to witness the announcement of a larger role for Rahul Gandhi.
The national executive meeting is likely to witness the passage of two resolutions on the political and economic situation in the country and will be followed by strategy sessions on January 18-19 at the Ramlila Maidan. The meet would see the participation of over 10,000 party functionaries.
Significantly, these strategic meetings will also mark the beginning of the BJP’s election campaign.
The biggest challenge before the Opposition party would be to educate its cadre about the need to reinforce the BJP’s position as the sole beneficiary of the “anti-Congress mood” in the country and not to let new entrants like the Aam Aadmi Party scupper its chances.
The party is also likely to release the publicity material and other slogans for the elections. Following the strategising sessions, the BJP will begin the process of selecting its candidates so that they get sufficient time to campaign for the polls.
Ahead of the three-day event, the party’s top leadership will hold a meeting on Thursday to decide on the agenda. The bigger challenge before the BJP would be to devise strategies to counter the rise of the AAP.
BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the three day national executive and council meeting will discuss the issues related to social, political, economic, national security and internal security.
“It will have a detailed discussion on the success of ‘mission good governance’ under the leadership of Narendra Modi in the coming lok Sabha elections...senior leaders including L K Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, M M Joshi, Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari and Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states will attend the entire session.
