Even as the Union Defence Ministry grapples with budgetary austerity, European military aerospace major Airbus Defence has been asked to extend the validity of its tender proposals for the six mid-air refuelling tanker planes worth `6,000 crore.

Airbus Defence officials told reporters here on Thursday that the ministry has asked them to extend the validity of their offer to the Indian Air Force till July end this year.

“We have agreed to the ministry’s request,”  the officials said.

The refuelling tanker planes are an essential military platform to provide mid-air refuelling to combat and transport aircraft belonging to the Indian Air Force and the Navy to extend range of operation.
