An autorickshaw driver today allegedly molested and assaulted a woman passenger after the two got into an altercation over fare settlement.
This is second such incident within a week despite West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra's assurance that steps will be taken against errant autorickshaw drivers.
Mohammed Amir Ali, of the Esplanade-Lohapool route, was arrested after the 27-year-old woman passenger lodged a complaint at the Karaya Police Station, police said.
The incident took place near the Quest mall of the Park Circus area of the city.
In a similar incident, a 24-year-old lady passenger was molested and beaten up by an autorickshaw driver on January 15 after a scuffle over fare rate.
The auto driver had been arrested. Mitra had condemned the incident and said that the state government was taking steps to check errant autorickshaw drivers.
