Stating that the judgment in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case had absolved the party, a visibly upbeat CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said on Wednesday that all the allegations levelled against the CPM in connection with the murder had been proved baseless completely.

“Unleashing false campaigns against the CPM and pointing out the arrest of P Mohanan, there had been attempts to establish that the CPM was behind the murder. However, the court has acquitted him now. This proves that the vicious allegations levelled against Mohanan and the party have turned baseless,’’ he said.

When pointed out that CPM leaders P K Kunhananthan and K C Ramachandran were found guilty of the charges, Pinarayi said, “It does not suggest the party’s involvement in the crime. We are not protesting against the court’s judgement. It is unfortunate that Kunhananthan has been found guilty. The party has been looking into the role of CPM activists in the murder. And we could understand that Kunhananthan had no connection with the murder.”

Pinarayi also alleged that the then Home Minister as well as the Chief Minister had been making all attempts to arraign the party in the murder case right from the beginning.

“Though a total of 76 men were made the accused in the  murder case, the list shrunk to 12 when the final verdict came,” Pinarayi Vijayan said.
