776 Security Personnel Awarded on R-day Eve
A total of 776 personnel have been awarded police medals this year that includes, 4 President’s Police Medals for Gallantry (PPMG), Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) to 44 personnel, President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service (PMDS) to 94 personnel and Police Medal for Meritorious Service to 624 personnel across the states and central police investigative and intelligence agencies. The President has also approved 41 Correctional Service Medals.
Total 15 medals for bravery were awarded to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Out of these, 8 troopers have been awarded posthumously for their gallantry in anti-Naxal operations. Jharkhand state police bagged 11 bravery awards, followed by 8 police medals for gallantry to Jammu & Kashmir Police.
Alwin Sudan, a sub-inspector of Tamil Nadu Police who was killed by a mob in Shivgangai district, was awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry, posthumously.
Pardeshi Sukuji Devangan, head constable of Maharashtra was awarded President Police Medal for Gallantry posthumously.
An IPS officer Rajvardhan, Dy Commissioner of Police also bagged the highest bravery award. President Police Medal for Distinguished Service was given to 5 officials of the Border Security Force (BSF), 7 officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), 3 officials of the CISF, 6 officials of the CRPF, 8 intelligence officials and 2 officials of Special Protection Group.
Around 70 Police medals for meritorious service was awarded to UP followed by 56 medals to the CRPF, 45 to the BSF, 39 to Maharashtra, 26 to Andhra Pradesh, 23 to the CISF and 21 medals to Tamil Nadu. SSB bagged one President Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 12 Indian Police Medals.
