Senior Congress leader and parliamentarian from Dewas Sajjan Singh Verma on Tuesday came down heavily on the party and vice-president Rahul Gandhi for nominating ‘ghise-pite’(old worn-out) faces to the Rajya Sabha.
Verma, a four-time MLA, said sending Digvijay Singh (from Madhya Pradesh), Motilal Vora (from Chhattisgarh), Madhusudan Mistry (from Gujarat) and Murli Deora (from Maharashtra) to the Rajya Sabha was against Rahul’s promise of promoting young faces in the party. Speaking to Express, he said the Upper House was not just a resting place for the old.
“These people failed in their states and now they have been nominated to the Rajya Sabha,” said Verma, who was also a Cabinet minister between 1998 and 2003 during Digvijay’s tenure as the MP Chief Minister.
“I have been forced to speak in front of the media as no one is ready to hear us on the party forum.
“It was because of Digvijay’s 10-year rule that we lost in Madhya Pradesh and are still struggling to make a comeback. In Chhattisgarh too, Motilal Vora could not do anything for the party. Similarly in Gujarat , Madhusudan Mistry was ineffective in stopping the BJP from winning,” he pointed out.
