The Congress leadership seems to be finally making moves to replace Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna for his inept handling of the relief and rehabilitation work carried out by the state government following the flash floods last year.

Sources indicated that the replacement may be announced on February 1 or 2. Union Minister Harish Rawat is tipped to replace Bahuguna. Bahuguna is expected to put in his papers on Friday.  However, Union Ministers Sushil Kumar Shinde and Ghulam Nabi Azad, who were to go to Dehra Dun as the AICC observers to facilitate a smooth change of guard, cancelled their trip,   sparking fresh speculation.Though Rawat is said to be the front-runner, another senior Congress leader from Uttarakhand, Indira Hridayesh’s name is also doing the rounds. The party is yet to have a woman Chief Minister.
