Majithia Given Religious Punishment for Distorting 'Gurbani'

The Five Takht Jathedars have pronounced religious punishment to Punjab Revenue Minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia for allegedly distorting the Gurbani while canvassing for BJP's Amritsar candidate Arun Jaitley.

Majithia will undergo religious sewa (religious service) at all Five Takhts, and three days at Akal Takht in Amritsar, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs.

The meeting was headed by Jathedar of Akal Takaht Giani Gurbachan Singh here today. Jathedar Gaini Gurbachan Singh pronounced the decision in presence of Majithia at Akal Takht.

Majithia had at an election rally reportedly distorted a hymn in Gurbani, compositions of the Sikh gurus, and inserted Jaitley's name into it.

The Sikh clergy directed Majithia to perform religious service in the community kitchen of Five Takhts, including Harmandhar Sahib at Patna Sahib, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib, Takht Sachkhand Sahib at Abchal Nagar in Nanded, Takht Dam-Dama Sahib at Talwandi Sabo in Punjab.

Thereafter, he would have to come at Amritsar Akal Takht.
