The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday warned Congress leader and Union Minister for Steel Beni Prasad Verma that he would be restricted from campaigning if he makes any more insulting remarks against BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Despite its expressing its displeasure earlier, the Commission viewed Verma’s repeated violations of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) with deep concern. In its order, the EC has condemned the impugned statements by Beni Prasad Verma and ‘censures him for the misconduct’. “The Commission further records that in case of any more violation by him, hereafter, the Commission shall take strict view against him, which may include, but not restricted to, denial of permission to carry out on any campaign related activity by him,” it said. This is the second time that the EC has found him guilty of violating the MCC. An FIR has already been registered against Verma in Balrampur for calling Modi the biggest goonda of RSS and BJP president Rajnath Singh his slave.
