Properties of 11 absconding gangrape accused have been attached by police on the intervention of court in connection with five gangrape cases at Phugana village of the district, police said today.

The properties of remaining absconding nine accused of gangrape cases, would be soon attached, SP (Rural) Alok Priyadarshi told reporters here.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has found involvement of 22 accused in five gangrape cases. Two of the accused were arrested by the police, while 20 have been absconding so far.

The local court has directed for attachment of properties of absconding 20 gangrape accused in different cases.

Police is also facing resistance in attachment of properties of the accused in gangrape cases. Recently, villagers have pelted stones on police teams, which had gone to the village to attach the properties, he said.

A case has been registered against 17 people including four women for interfering in police action at Phugana village on May 2, he added.

Around 60 people died and thousands were displaced from their homes in last year's communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and neighbouring villages of Western Uttar Pradesh.
