The Samajwadi Party, which has been labouring to stem the erosion of its minority vote bank in the wake of the Akhilesh Yadav Government’s alleged inaction in effectively dealing with the  Muzaffarnagar carnage,is now likely to benefit from the consolidation of the Muslim votes in Eastern UP following BJP UP in-charge and Narenda Modi aide Amit Shah’s recent ‘Atankgarh’ barb. Shah’s unflattering sobriquet had been the last straw for the electorate from the region, which prides itself as the birth place of several legendary literary figures. Already, the local Muslims were feeling socially ostracised since some members of the Indian Mujahideen(IM) terror outfit were traced to Sanjarpur. And the general belief among them was that the BJP, the Congress and the BSP had done their bit in allegedly defaming the region.
