Tatra Case: Statements Recorded

The CBI on Tuesday recorded the statements of Defence Minister A K Antony and the Prime Minister’s Adviser T K A Nair in the Tatra bribery case

The CBI on Tuesday recorded the statements of Defence Minister A K Antony and the Prime Minister’s Adviser T K A Nair in the Tatra bribery case, which brought suspicious deals between Tatra UK and Indian PSU Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) to the spotlight.

“Yes, we recorded the statements of the Defence Minister and former Principal Secretary in the PMO as witnesses in the case,” CBI Director Ranjit Sinha told reporters. According to sources, the CBI will soon take a call on whether to file a chargesheet or close the case after examining the witnesses’ statements. “The probe, so far, has not revealed any evidence against those named in the preliminary inquiry,” a source said.

The agency registered the case in 2012 when the Ministry of Defence forwarded Ex-Army Chief V K Singh’s complaint alleging a bribe by a retired senior Army official requesting him to clear an order for substandard Army vehicles.
