Shiromani Akali Dal Leader Commits Suicide

A 63-year-old Shiromani Akali Dal leader has allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in Manawali village here, police said today.

Buta Singh, SAD's senior vice president of Phagwara (rural) circle committed suicide yesterday following which he was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared dead later, police said.

In a suicide note left by him, Singh alleged that he had given Rs 15 lakh loan to Didar Singh's family living in the same village, and instead of returning his money, Didar Singh's family was threatening him which drove him to take the extreme step.

Police has booked Didar Singh, his wife Kulwant Kaur, and sons Parminder Singh and Gurwinder Singh under section 306 (abatement of suicide) of IPC. However, they have not been arrested so far, police said.

In another incident, a 20-year-old youth committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance, police said.

Ajay Grover was working as a manager in a coffee shop near bus stand here and his body was found in the shop by another employee yesterday when he opened the shop.

Police also found a suicide note near the body which said that Grover was ending his life himself and no one should be blamed for it.
