Six Karbi Militants Killed in Assam

Six Karbi militants were Wednesday gunned down by security forces in Assam's Karbi Anglong district, police said.

The six included self-styled commander-in-chief Kangthur alias Bikash Teron of the Karbi Peoples Liberation Tigers (KPLT). The rest of the five militants are yet to be identified.

A joint team of army and Assam Police launched an operation in Singhasan Hills in the district Wednesday morning.

A lethod gun, two AK-47 rifles, two 9mm pistols and 486 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, a police official said.

The KPLT has been involved in killings, abductions and extortion in and around Karbi Anglong.
