Prof Saibaba Arrest: Naxals Plot Attack on Securitymen

NEW DELHI: The Maoists are planning to carry out massive attack on security forces in retaliation to the arrest of Delhi University Professor G N Saibaba, the Ministry of Home Affairs has warned all nine Naxal-affected states.

In an advisory the MHA said that though top leaders of the CPI(Maoist) are denying that Saibaba is a senior member of the Naxal outfit, they however, have instructed its armed cadres in Dandakaranya region to avenge the arrest.

The ultras have also asked the Naxal sympathisers to mobilise the protests across the country against the arrest.  He was arrested by the Maharashtra police from here on May 9 for alleged links with Naxalites.

The CPI (Maoist) has requested certain pro-Naxal activists and academics to undertake agitation here and other places for his release and some over-ground workers have contacted Maoist sympathisers in the media to write articles highlighting Saibaba’s physical disability and portray police investigation in bad light, the advisory said.

The advisory based on latest intelligence inputs gathered by the Central agencies warned of improvised explosive device (IED) attacks targeting Central and state forces.

The input suggested that top Maoists leadership is also planning campaign to put pressure on the government. “In the light of the above intelligence inputs, it is suggested that the state governments may keep strict vigil over the matter and take necessary preventive measures,” the Ministry’s advisory said.

Prof Suspended

The Delhi University on Thursday suspended English professor G N Saibaba for   his alleged links with the banned CPI (Maoist).

The varsity joint dean of students’ welfare and media coordinator Malay Neerav said, “We received a recommendation from the governing body of Ram Lal Anand College for Saibaba’s suspension and accordingly the university has accepted the recommendation.”

Saibaba, nabbed from the North Campus near his house on May 9 and taken to Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra, has been in the custody of Maharashtra police for the past six days.
