GOALPARA: Popular Assamese singer Suman Mahanta and 10 other persons were killed while another person was seriously injured when their mini bus collided with a truck in Goalpara district Wednesday.
The 22-year-old singer along with 11 musicians was returning in a mini bus after performing at a Bihu cultural function at Matia when their vehicle was hit by a truck coming from Guwahati at about 5 AM, police said.
Upcoming artiste Mahanta and eight others died on the spot, while two others succumbed to injuries on way to Goalpara Civil Hospital.
The injured identified as Gautam Sarma and probably the singer's manager was referred to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
The truck driver was later arrested.
