AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Chief Minister Anandi Patel today greeted people on the occasion of Dussehra and asked them to take a pledge to defeat "the monster of filth" prevailing in society with the weapon of cleanliness.

"Just like divine powers defeated evils on Vijaya Dashmi, we should also strive to defeat the monster of filth prevailing in our society. Every one of us should take a pledge to make Gujarat clean and healthy," an official release quoted her as saying here.

On the occasion of Vijaya Dashmi, Patel performed shashtra puja (worship of weapons) at her residence in the presence of her security personnel and other staff members.
