SHIMLA: There is a need to preserve cultural heritage and traditions of Himachal Pradesh while striving for speedy development in the state, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said today.

Speaking on the concluding ceremony of the International Kullu Dussehra Festival at Kala Kendra here, he said "Himachal Pradesh was known as the land of Gods and was a treasure-house of many pre-historic temples".

Underlining the need to utilise the natural resources without destroying the environment, Singh said his government was committed to provide the best educational facilities in the rural areas as many schools had been opened or upgraded to facilitate the students.

However, he cautioned the teachers of government schools that if the children of their schools failed to give good examination results, they would be made accountable.

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the first-of-its- kind district library in Kullu with all modern facilities like wi-fi and book cafe.

He appreciated the?efforts of the district administration for conducting the week-long festival with great fervour by adding many new attractions to the festival besides the mega dance show which?marked its place in?Limca Book of records.
