Cabinet Secretary Reviews Readiness

NEW DELHI: Cabinet Secretary Ajit Kumar Seth on Thursday reviewed the preparedness for cyclone Hud Hud, set to hit the coasts of Odisha and Andhra on October 12.

The Cabinet Secretary, who is chairman of the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), has asked the representatives of all Central ministries/departments and chief secretaries of the  State governments to take steps to meet any eventuality.

In the wake of the cyclonic storm, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has put its five battalions in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar on high alert. A total of 27 teams are being deployed in vulnerable areas.

In Odisha, nine NDRF teams are being considered for deployment in Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Cuttack, Puri and Balasore districts.

One DIG-level officer each has been stationed at Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneswar to supervise the NDRF operations.

A total of 162 boats and 54 deep diving sets with other flood rescue equipments are being sent.
