GUWAHATI: In the continuing sexual violence against women and children, a minor girl was allegedly raped before being murdered by a youth in an Assam village.  The incident, which occurred in Borpathar area of Golaghat district, has sparked outrage with the locals demanding action against the culprit at the earliest. The 12-year-old victim was a student of class VII.

According to the girl’s father Kamal Thengal, his daugher had been allegedly raped before being murdered by Padma Thengal, a village youth.  “Yesterday( on Sunday), at around 9 am, she went to take a bath at a pond behind our house. However, when she didn’t return even after an hour, I sent my son to enquire about her. When he reached the site, he saw her lying by the pond with the head half buried in mud,” the girl’s father said.“We suspect that she was raped before being murdered. As there was not much water in the pond,  the accused apparently tried to bury her in the mud after committing the crime. We have seen scratches and bruises around her neck, which are suggestive of her attempts to resist the crime. There were also some marks on the ground leading to the spot indicating that she had been dragged there by the accused,” Kamal said.

The accused is absconding, even as a police probe is under way. “The body has been sent for autopsy to Golaghat. We are awaiting the medical report,” a police officer told Express.
