NEW DELHI: Former IAF Chief S P Tyagi today said he expects the Indian investigation agencies to come to the same conclusion as the Italian agencies which found no evidence of any bribery in the controversial VVIP Helicopter deal involving AgustaWestland.
"I don't care frankly what it means in Milan court. There is an Indian system and I believe the Indian system has worked independent of Milan court...They will come to some conclusion but my own feeling is they have to come to same conclusion because there is nothing that happened," he said.
Tyagi, who is being probed by the Enforcement Directorate and CBI for alleged bribery in the 12 VVIP Helicopter deal with Italian company AgustaWestland, said that the probe period has been the most difficult time of his life.
"This has been most difficult time of my life. I have fought two wars but this has been very demanding...very demanding for Indian Air Force. The organisation went through the trauma which is as big as personal trauma," he told CNN IBN.
Tyagi said two governments (NDA and UPA) were involved and all the systems were followed. He said it is impossible for any individual to "tweak" the system which involved top offices of Prime Ministers and Defence Minister.
"I say it hurts because the system was followed. I can tell you that there were two governments that were involved, two entire establishments that were involved, highest levels two PMOs, two MoDs, two ministers and I think the system was followed. In this I can say for certain that system was very strong," he said.
Tyagi said there are enough checks and balances and when entire community takes as collegiate decision then it is impossible for any individual to tweak it as it involves "layers and layers of decision making".
He said political leadership should have come out and own the decision which did not happen.
"I have no clue what the Milan Court has done except that they have found no clue of bribery. No evidence of India connection....Of course. I would like a clean chit and I would like it to be announced from the roof tops," he said.
