Country on High Alert Ahead of Diwali

NEW DELHI: Taking note of communal tension during Ganesh Chaturthi and Durga Puja, the Union Home Ministry has asked all the states to ensure proper security arrangements at places of worship, especially in communally-sensitive areas, ahead of Diwali and Kali Puja.

At least 10 cities, including Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune and Ahmedabad,  were issued high alert, with the MHA directing the local administration to remain alert against communal tension. According to sources, specific alert has been received by intelligence agencies regarding cities mentioned in the MHA note.
