Mob Attacks Police Station in Bihar, Sets Afire Vehicles

MOTIHARI: A mob on Friday torched several vehicles, including a police jeep, to protest against drowning of a man in a pond apparently to avoid chasing cops in Bihar's East Champaran district.

As soon as the news spread about the death of one Sonu Mian after falling in a pond near Tumaria Tola locality to avoid a police raid party, a large number of people gathered at Raxaul police station and set aflame a police jeep, besides several other vehicles, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sudhir Kumar Singh said.

The protesters also blocked a road by putting the body of the victim in middle and demanded compensation to the family of the victim.

Singh said that the protesters lifted the blockade following assurance that their demands will be met.

Eyewitnesses said Mian was running away when a police party raided a gambling den and jumped into the pond.
