Akhilesh Writes to Modi, Seeks Fertilizers for Farmers

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting immediate supply of 8.5 lakh tonnes of urea for farmers to ensure optimum crop produce.

Of the amount of fertilizer, 4.5 lakh tonnes was required for the cooperative sector while four lakh tonnes was needed for the private sector, an official spokesman said.

In his letter to Modi, Yadav mentioned the problems faced by the farmers of his state due to the inadequate and delayed supply of fertilisers.

He also said that of the quota of 38 lakh tonnes for the state, only 35 lakh tonnes have been supplied.

Yadav said the state government has decided to store in advance two lakh tonnes to meet the shortage at the time of urgency so that optimum produce is achieved.
