Amit Shah Appoints 10 New Members to His Team

After keeping the posts in the party vacant for months, the BJP chief Amit Shah on Wednesday made 10 new additions to his team of office bearers, some of which are also promotions.

NEW DELHI: After keeping the posts in the party vacant for months, the BJP chief Amit Shah on Wednesday made 10 new additions to his team of office bearers, some of which are also promotions.

The vacancies had been created in the BJP team, as many of the office bearers were promoted and made ministers in the Narendra Modi government in November last.

Those who have figured in the new list announced here are those rewarded for the recent electoral successes in different states. Shah announced names of three new three new vice presidents, as many general secretaries, and four secretaries.

With the vacancies being filled in BJP, the focus would shift to likely reshuffle in the Modi cabinet, a move expected for long.

Among the key appointments made by Shah are those of Om Mathur as vice president, currently party incharge of Uttar Pradesh.  He was earlier incharge of Rajasthan where BJP made a clean sweep during the Lok Sabha elections.  Mathur was earlier general secretary three times and even during Rajnath Singh's term as party chief. Mathur was made incharge of electorally crucial Uttar Pradesh, a charge that was earlier held by Shah before he became party chief.

The other two vice presidents are: Shyam Jaju, who was presently secretary in the party. he is incharge of Uttarakhand.  Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, Avinash Rai Khanna, who was co-incharge of the Jammu and Kashmir, where BJP formed its first government has also been made the party vice president.

Key addition in the list of power general secretaries are: Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya. He was election incharge of Haryana, where BJP formed government for the first time.

The other two general secretaries are Arun Singh and Anil Jain. Both of them were presently secretaries in the party. Jain was co-incharge for Haryana.

IN all there has been promotion for three secretaries. Shyam Jaju, Arun Singh and Anil Jain.

The four new secretaries are: Suresh Pujari, former party chief of Odisha, Mahendra Singh, an MLC from Uttar Pradesh and incharge of party affairs in Assam, Delhi MP and former Art of Living teacher Mahesh Giri and Farooq Khan, a former IG, who joined BJP recently in Jammu and Kashmir.

Khan’s father was Col Pir Mohd Khan was former president of Jan Sangh in Kashmir. Farooq Khan will be the minority face in the BJP office bearers Mukhat Abbas Naqvi, who was earlier the vice president was made the minister.  Apart from Naqvi two other vice presidents: Bandaru Dattareya was drafted into the Union government and while Raghubar Das was appointed as Jharkhand Chief Minister.

The vacancies of general secretaries arose after J P Nadda, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Ram Shankar Katheriya became Union Ministers.
