Give Parl Berth to Raheen, Says SP

MUMBAI:The Maharashtra unit of the Samajwadi Party on late Friday night stirred a controversy over “honouring” hanged bomb blast convict Yakub Memon’s widow Raheen.

The state unit has sent a letter to party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav demanding a Parliament seat for Raheen as a token of appreciation for the trouble she suffered for 22 years during her husband’s imprisonment.

The letter signed by party state vice-president Muhammad Farook Ghosi stated: “I found Raheen Memon helpless. There could be so many helpless people in the country. We have to fight for them. The Muslims too believe that they are helpless. We should make her a Member of Parliament and let her become a voice of helpless people.”
