Militants Fire at Police Check Post; 3 Cops, Cab Driver Hurt

Three policemen, including an SHO, and a taxi driver were injured tonight when militants opened firing on a police check post in Pattan area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

SRINAGAR: Three policemen, including an SHO, and a taxi driver were injured tonight when militants opened firing on a police check post in Pattan area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

"At about 9.15 pm, a police party at Mirgund in Pattan signalled a cab to stop but two militants inside the vehicle started firing, which was retaliated," a police official said.

Three policemen including SHO of local police station, Inspector Saleem, were injured in the firing, the official said. He said the driver of the vehicle was also injured in the firing but the militants managed to escape from the spot under the cover of darkness.

The injured persons have been shifted to a hospital here for treatment, the official said. An alert has been issued in Pattan and adjoining areas to track down the militants, he added.
