Pakistan Violates Ceasefire in Jammu, No Casualty Reported

The border residents have been forced to abandon their homes and agricultural fields for fear of life.

JAMMU: Pakistan Rangers on Sunday fired at Indian positions on the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

"Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing at BSF (Border Security Force) outposts in Kotranka area of R.S. Pura sector," a police officer told IANS.

The firing began at 1.30 a.m. The BSF retaliated effectively.

"Intermittent firing exchanges continued in the area till 2.30 a.m."

The officer said no casualty or damage has been reported from the Indian side.

Pakistan troops have violated the bilateral ceasefire agreement over a dozen times during the last seven days on the border, causing panic among thousands of villagers in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts.

These border residents have been forced to abandon their homes and agricultural fields for fear of life.
