Terror Claimed Lives of Over 200 Defence Personnel Since 2012

NEW DELHI: Over 200 defence personnel have been killed due to insurgency, terrorism and cross border firing in the country since 2012.  

In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said 61 were martyred in 2012 and 54 in 2013. In 2014, 56 defence personnel were martyred and this year, till August 3, 30 have been killed.

The occurrence of casualties suffered by Indian Army troops (both on LoC and in hinterland) is "contingent on the operation dynamics at the time and place of the ceasefire violations, Border Action Team, Improvised Explosive Device, terrorist initiated incident or any other type of operational contact," he said.
