CVC Asked About Help in Coal Probe

SC sought to know from the Central Vigilance Commission about the assistance it could provide in the probe against former CBI director Ranjit Sinha.

NEW DELHI:The Supreme Court on Monday sought to know from the Central Vigilance Commission about the assistance it could provide in the probe against former CBI director Ranjit Sinha, accused of scuttling probe into coal block allocation scam.  The court asked the CVC to respond by September 7. Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said he would get back to the Chief Vigilance Commissioner, whether his office could do the inquiry or not and then inform the court. Senior advocate Amarender Sharan, appearing for the CBI, said instead of going into all this, it would be appropriate to look into the 14 regular cases that were dealt by Sinha to ascertain any wrongdoing on his part.
