MUZAFFARNAGAR: A revenue inspector has been suspended for allegedly issuing fake certificate of succession to some of the descendants of Pakistan's first Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan, having properties worth crores of rupees in the district.
Tejvir Singh, a revenue clerk back then, had issued succession certificates to one Jamshed Ali Khan and others, who claimed to be successors of the former Pakistan PM on January 28, 1997, Sub Divisional Magistrate Ujjval Kumar said today.
The matter came to the fore when Jamshed and his associates applied for possession of the disputed land worth crore of rupees, he said.
During investigation, the certificate was found to be fake and illegal, Kumar said, adding that Singh was therefore put under suspension.
Notably, former Pakistan PM Liaquat Ali Khan who hailed from a landlord's family in Karnal, then in undivided Punjab had served as a member of the provincial legislative council from Muzaffarnagar between 1926 and 1940.
Khan's descendants have claimed large tracts of land in the district belong to them.
