Senior Police Officer Suspended for Molesting Woman Sub-Inspector

RAIPUR: A senior police officer has been suspended for allegedly molesting a junior woman sub-inspector at the old police headquarters here.

The Chhattisgarh home department last evening issued the order suspending Assistant Inspector General (Intelligence) Sanjay Sharma based on the report of an inquiry committee which was set up following a complaint by the woman.

As per the suspension order, AIG Sanjay Sharma is alleged to have molested the complainant on April 7 inside an elevator here at the old police headquarters building.

When the complainant reported the matter to her superiors, an inquiry was held into the case under the guidelines of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

The inquiry committee comprised two women IPS officers.

The complainant also alleged that the officer used to send her indecent SMSes and made inappropriate comments to her in front of colleagues in the office.

The inquiry committee found Sharma prima facie responsible for the incident, which amounts to violation of provisions of Civil Services (conduct) Rules, following which it recommended his suspension.

The police headquarters shifted to Naya Raipur last month.
