NEW DELHI:  Even as both Houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die on Thursday, with the government keeping the option of extending the Session at a later date, the BJP-led government has decided to take its fight against the Congress, particularly the Gandhi family, from the legislative chambers to the streets.

While comparing the current situation to Emergency where one family wanted all the power to itself, Modi said, “Congress party wants to save the family, while BJP wants to save the country as it is our principle.”

Following Modi’s directive, a minister and five BJP MPs would go to each of the Congress and Left constituencies to hold press conferences, rallies and meetings to highlight how the Congress’ protests stalled development and hurt the economy. On Friday, BJP spokespersons and leaders will be holding press conferences in different State capitals to target Congress.

The attack that was focussed on the Gandhi family began on Thursday as NDA MPs including senior ministers like Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari and party veteran LK Advani took out a ‘Save Democracy’ march protesting against Congress. They walked holding placards from Parliament to Vijay Chowk.

“We accept this undemocratic challenge by the Congress and will take it to the people. Our people will go to every nook and corner to expose the Congress, which is trying to stop the growth of the country,”  Modi said during the NDA parliamentary party meeting.

The Prime Minister will be making the Independence Day public speech at Red Fort two days later without the passing of two of his key reform bills — GST and Land Bill.

Later finance minister Arun Jaitley also targeted the Gandhi family. “Congress President Sonia Gandhi hit a new low. It is for the first time that the supreme leader of a mainstream party has jumped into the Well of the House. Even the pretext of stature and dignity was not maintained,” he said.
