CBI Registers Vyapam Case Underlined by Digvijay Singh

In the case underlined by Singh in his recent submission to the Director CBI Anil Sinha, it was alleged that there were irregularities in PMT examination in 2013.

NEW DELHI: CBI today started probe in the Vyapam related case, against over 700 people, highlighted by Congress leader Digvijay Singh in which he had alleged that evidence of excel sheet carrying initials "CM" was tampered with by the Special Task Force.

The agency also registered six more FIRs and two preliminary enquiries in connection with the alleged irregularities in the conduct of professional examinations by Vyapam in Madhya Pradesh taking the total number of FIRs in the scandal to 104.

In the case underlined by Singh in his recent submission to the Director CBI Anil Sinha, it was alleged that there were irregularities in PMT examination in 2013, the sources said.

Singh had claimed that from the computer of alleged mastermind of the case Nitin Mohindra, Principal Analyst, Vyapam, police had recovered an excel sheet in which "CM" was mentioned in 48 places which had been changed with other names.

The former Chief Minister had sought a fair investigation from the CBI Director in the matter.

CBI spokesperson said the agency has registered the case on allegations of cheating by personation, forgery, use of unfair means, possessions of illegal arms, tampering of electronic evidence etc in PMT, 2013 in connivance with officials of Vyapam.

"Twelve chargesheets have already been filed against 480 accused persons apart from 11 juvenile persons. 516 arrests have been effected till date," the spokesperson said.

Second and third case are against against four accused each on allegations of cheating by impersonation in Police Constable Recruitment Examination in the year 2012.

The fourth case registered by the agency is against 153 accused persons on allegations of cheating by personation, forgery, use of unfair means etc in PMT 2009 while the fifth case is against 20 accused persons on allegations of cheating by personation, forgery, use of unfair means etc in Forest Guard Recruitment Exam, 2013, the Spokesperson said.

She said sixth case is against 271 accused persons on allegations of cheating by personation, forgery, use of unfair means in examination, abetment etc in PMT 2009 and seventh case is against 46 accused persons on allegations of cheating by personation, forgery, use of unfair means in the exam.

The two preliminary enquiries are related to unnatural deaths of people linked with Vyapam scam.

"The first Preliminary Enquiry has been registered on the allegations of suspected unnatural death with regards to the inquest proceedings initiated by the Police Station Sipri Bazaar, Jhansi of Parmod Sharma who was accused in six cases of STF Bhopal and one case of Police Station Jhansi Road, Gwalior(MP)," CBI spokesperson said.

She said second preliminary enquiry has been registered on the allegations of suspected unnatural death of Narender Pal Singh who was accused in one case related to Vyapam.
